Debye length
This term is a specialized technical expression used primarily in plasma physics and electrochemistry. It describes the distance over which a charge is shielded by the surrounding medium, effectively acting as a measure of the "reach" of an electric field within a plasma or electrolyte.
In a practical sense, when the Debye length is small, the plasma is highly effective at screening charges, meaning the electric field is neutralized quickly over a short distance. Conversely, a large Debye length indicates poor screening, allowing electric fields to penetrate deeper into the medium.
Ý nghĩa
The characteristic distance over which the electric potential of a mobile charge carrier is screened by other mobile charge carriers in a plasma or electrolyte solution.
The Debye length determines the scale at which electrostatic interactions become effectively neutralized in a plasma.
