prepreg
This term is a technical portmanteau of pre-impregnated, used almost exclusively within aerospace, automotive, and high-performance sporting goods industries. It describes a specialized state of composite material where the resin is already integrated into the fiber, ensuring a precise resin-to-fiber ratio that cannot be achieved with manual wetting.
Because prepreg contains a chemically active resin that begins to cure at room temperature, it must be stored in industrial freezers to inhibit the chemical reaction. This logistical requirement distinguishes it from "dry" fibers or wet-layup processes in a manufacturing environment.
