superheat
This term is primarily used in thermodynamics and chemical engineering to describe a specific physical state where a liquid remains in a liquid phase despite exceeding its standard boiling point. This occurs when there are no nucleation sites, such as impurities or rough surfaces, to trigger the formation of vapor bubbles.
Because it describes a precise scientific phenomenon, the word is almost exclusively restricted to technical, academic, or laboratory registers. It is not used in casual conversation to describe "extreme heat" or "overheating" in a general sense; using it to describe a hot day or a malfunctioning engine would be semantically incorrect.
