reactionとは、外部からの力や出来事によって引き起こされる、反射的または自動的な応答のことです。これは、最初の作用や刺激に対して、その後の反応が起こるという因果関係を意味します。
社会的な場面では、感情的または行動的な爆発を指すことがよくあります。response（応答）が、熟考され計画的に行われるものであるのに対し、reactionはより即座で本能的、あるいは直感的なものであることが多いです。
科学的な文脈（化学や物理学）では、この言葉は中立的かつ専門的な意味となり、物質の変化や物理的な力の押し返しを指します。この場合、人間の行動に見られるような感情的な激しさは含まれません。
Countable when referring to specific responses from people ('The reactions were mixed') or a particular chemical process ('a combustion reaction'). Uncountable when discussing the general physical principle of force in physics ('the law of action and reaction').
