この言葉は、物理的な遮断やシステム上の停滞という強い意味合いを持っています。単に不便であるということではなく、交通の流れや肺の中の空気、あるいは裁判の手続きなど、本来流れるべきものが完全に止まってしまうような壁がある状態を指します。
hurdle（乗り越えるべき障害）や barrier（立ち入りを防ぐ壁）とは異なり、obstruction は本来は何もないはずの道に、不適切に何かが入り込んでいる状態を意味します。特に法律や公的な文脈で使われる場合は、好ましくない、あるいは違法な干渉を指すことが多いです。
Countable when referring to a specific physical object blocking a path, such as a boulder in the road. Uncountable when referring to the general act of hindering a process, such as the legal concept of obstruction of justice.
