translation
translationは、主に言語を別の言語に変換する翻訳という意味で使われますが、文脈によって数学や物理学、生物学などの専門分野で異なる意味を持つ多義語です。
言語的な意味と注意点

専門分野における意味の転換
数学や幾何学の分野では、図形を回転させずにそのままの位置関係を保って移動させる平行移動を意味します。また、生物学（分子生物学）においては、メッセンジャーＲＮＡの情報を基にタンパク質が合成される翻訳というプロセスを指します。これらは言語的な翻訳とは概念が異なりますが、ある形態から別の形態へ情報を転換させるという共通点があるため、同じ単語が使われています。
幾何学的な移動： A translation moves every point of a figure by the same distance.（平行移動では、図形のすべての点が同じ距離だけ移動する。）
混同しやすい表現interpretationとの違いに注意してください。translationが主に書き言葉の変換を指すのに対し、interpretationは話し言葉の同時通訳や、あるいは意味の解釈を指します。口頭での翻訳をtranslationと呼ぶことは一般的ではありません。
