fluorescence là một thuật ngữ khoa học dùng để chỉ hiện tượng một chất hấp thụ năng lượng (thường là ánh sáng tia cực tím) và ngay lập tức phát ra ánh sáng ở bước sóng dài hơn. Trong tiếng Việt, từ này được dịch là "sự huỳnh quang". Điểm mấu chốt để phân biệt fluorescence với các hiện tượng phát sáng khác là tính tức thời; ánh sáng sẽ biến mất ngay khi nguồn kích thích bị ngắt.
