euhedral
This term is a specialized technical descriptor used primarily in mineralogy and petrology. It describes crystals that have grown in an environment with enough space and time to develop their natural, geometric crystal habit without interference from neighboring grains. The term carries a neutral, descriptive tone and is almost exclusively found in scientific reports, academic textbooks, or geological surveys.
In contrast to anhedral crystals, which lack defined faces, or subhedral crystals, which are only partially formed, euhedral crystals provide critical evidence about the cooling history and chemical environment of a rock.
