necrosing
This term is primarily used in clinical, pathological, or biological contexts. It describes an active, ongoing process of cell or tissue death. It is highly formal and technical, rarely appearing in casual conversation unless a medical professional is explaining a condition to a patient.
There is a critical distinction between "necrosing" and "necrotic." While "necrotic" describes tissue that is already dead, "necrosing" describes tissue that is currently in the process of dying. Using "necrosing" emphasizes the progression and urgency of the decay.
Outside of medicine, the word frequently appears in horror or dark fantasy genres to describe supernatural decay, such as the effects of a curse or the state of an undead creature, where it evokes a visceral sense of rotting or wasting away.
