This term describes the physical, engineered surface of a road. It is a technical and precise word often used by civil engineers, urban planners, or in legal documents to distinguish the actual driving surface from the surrounding infrastructure. It excludes sidewalks, shoulders, and curbs. While road is a general term for the entire route from point A to point B, roadway focuses on the structural strip of asphalt or concrete.
