本来の意味では、一時的な状態ではなく、長期的な平均値を指します。weather（天気）が今日起きていることを指すのに対し、climate（気候）は数十年間にわたる予想されるパターンを指します。そこには、永続性と予測可能性という感覚が含まれています。

社会的な環境や政治的な環境を比喩的に表現する場合、目に見えないものの強力な圧力を表します。これは、個人の行動や感情を決定づける、集団の共通した気分や考え方を意味します。

部屋の中の一時的な雰囲気であるatmosphere（雰囲気）と比較すると、climate（情勢・雰囲気）はより体系的で構造的な状態を指し、短期間で変えることが難しい状況であることを示唆します。

Uncountable when referring to the general global weather patterns ('Climate change is a global crisis').
