skeptically
This adverb describes an attitude of doubt or hesitation. It is frequently used to describe facial expressions, tones of voice, or the manner in which someone evaluates a claim. While it can be neutral in a scientific or philosophical context, in social interactions it often carries a connotation of mild disapproval or a refusal to be easily fooled.
Because it modifies verbs of perception and cognition, it is commonly paired with verbs like look, smile, respond, or view. It differs from "cynically" in that skepticism is often based on a demand for evidence, whereas cynicism implies a deeper belief that people are motivated purely by self-interest.
