cataphora
This term is a specialized linguistic concept used primarily in academic and technical discourse regarding syntax and semantics. It describes a specific direction of reference where a pronoun or substitute appears before the entity it refers to, creating a brief moment of suspense or anticipation for the reader or listener.
In contrast to anaphora, which refers backward to a previously mentioned subject, cataphora is often employed in literary writing to build tension or focus attention on the subsequent revelation of the subject.
