beta wave
This term is primarily used in clinical neurology and psychology to describe a specific state of cognitive arousal. It is contrasted with alpha waves, which indicate relaxed wakefulness, and theta or delta waves, which are associated with sleep or deep meditation. In a medical context, the presence of these waves is a marker of active processing and alertness.
Because this is a technical term from electroencephalography (EEG), it is almost exclusively found in scientific literature, medical reports, or academic discussions regarding brain activity. It is rarely used in casual conversation unless referring to biofeedback or neuroscience research.
