This term is primarily used in the professional registers of urban planning, architecture, and municipal governance. It shifts the focus from the street as a mere transit route to the street as a visual and social environment, encompassing everything from the facade of buildings to the placement of benches and trees.
While it can be used to describe a static view, it is more frequently employed in a design context to discuss the intentional manipulation of physical elements to improve the quality of urban life. It is distinct from "cityscape," which refers to the broader panoramic view of an entire city.
