Used to describe a process, movement, or transition that occurs without friction, hesitation, or unexpected obstacles. While it originates from the English "smooth," in Japanese, it is most frequently applied to the efficiency and flow of events rather than physical textures.

Compared to the native Japanese word "enkatsu" (円滑), "sumuuzu" is more versatile and common in daily conversation and modern business settings. "Enkatsu" is more formal and typically reserved for official documents or highly formal speeches.

It differs from "junchou" (順調), which means "going well" or "on track." While "junchou" focuses on the successful progress toward a goal, "sumuuzu" focuses on the lack of friction or the seamlessness of the transition itself. For example, a project can be "junchou" (on schedule) even if the internal communication is not "sumuuzu" (seamless).
