While 勉強 (benkyou) refers to the general act of studying or learning—often a self-directed or academic pursuit—研修 specifically denotes a formal, institutionalized process. You would not use 研修 to describe studying for a school exam, but you would use it for a corporate onboarding program or a professional certification workshop.
