This term is primarily used in technical, anatomical, and medical registers. It describes a precise point of junction or a structural bridge. In a general anatomical sense, it refers to the meeting point of two edges, such as the corners of the mouth, where the upper and lower lips join.
In neurology, the term takes on a more specialized meaning to describe the white matter tracts that allow communication between the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
