chiral
This term is primarily used in chemistry, physics, and biology to describe a specific type of asymmetry. It refers to the property of "handedness," where an object or molecule cannot be perfectly aligned with its mirror image, much like a left hand cannot be superimposed on a right hand.
In a scientific context, chirality is critical because two chiral versions of the same molecule (enantiomers) can have drastically different biological effects. One version might be a life-saving medicine, while its mirror image could be inert or even toxic. Because it is a technical descriptor of geometric property, it is almost exclusively found in academic or professional scientific discourse.
