雨天

The word "雨天" is a formal, written term used primarily in official announcements, public notices, and business contexts. It describes the state of the weather being rainy. While it translates to "rainy weather," it is significantly more stiff and formal than the common word "雨" (ame).

In casual daily conversation, a native speaker would almost never say "今日は雨天です" (Today is rainy weather); instead, they would say "今日は雨です" (Today is rain/it's raining). Using "雨天" in a casual setting would sound unnaturally robotic or overly bureaucratic.
