The term "saibai" refers to the intentional and managed growing of plants. While the common verb "sodateru" (育てる) can be used for anything from children to pets and plants in a general sense, "saibai" is a more technical and formal term. It implies a level of systematic care, often involving specific techniques, environmental control, or a goal of production (such as for food, medicine, or sale).

In contrast to "kousaku" (耕作), which focuses on the act of tilling and preparing the land (farming/plowing), "saibai" focuses on the biological process of nurturing the plant itself from seed to harvest.

It is frequently used in professional, academic, or agricultural contexts. For example, while you might say "I'm growing a flower" using "sodateru" in a casual conversation, a botanical garden or a commercial farm would use "saibai" to describe their operations.
