It is distinct from "shusei" (修正), which specifically means "correction" or "fixing an error." Use "henkou" when the change is not necessarily because the previous version was "wrong," but because a different choice is now desired or necessary.

In digital contexts, "henkou" is the standard term for changing settings, passwords, or user profiles in software interfaces. In professional settings, it is often used with modifiers like "大幅に" (drastically) or "一部を" (partially) to specify the scale of the change.
