This term describes a state of emotional numbness or a profound lack of motivation that goes beyond simple boredom. It carries a heavy, stagnant connotation, often suggesting a psychological or social paralysis where the individual is no longer capable of feeling passion or urgency toward things that should normally provoke a reaction. In political or social contexts, it is frequently used as a critique of a population that has become disillusioned or indifferent to systemic issues. While similar to indifference, apathy implies a deeper, more chronic void of feeling or a total absence of drive, rather than a conscious choice to ignore something.
