This term describes a linguistic strategy where a speaker deliberately chooses a word with a negative or jarring connotation to degrade the subject. It functions as the aggressive mirror image of a euphemism; while a euphemism softens a harsh reality, a cacophemism intentionally sharpens it to evoke disgust, anger, or contempt.
