bifocals

This term refers specifically to a type of corrective eyewear designed for presbyopia, where the wearer requires different prescriptions for far and near vision. It is almost exclusively used in the plural form because eyeglasses consist of two lenses.

While "bifocals" is the common term, it is often used as a shorthand for "bifocal glasses." In modern optometry, it is frequently contrasted with "trifocals" or "progressive lenses," the latter of which provide a seamless transition between focal points rather than the distinct line characteristic of traditional bifocals.
